This bad shot jolts dangerously into the ground before the ball. Since there is usually a lump of turf between the ball and the club-face, the ball may go forwards but with little distance.

This error is particularly severe with the woods and for women, who are often less bulky than their male counterparts. The jolt shakes a few teeth loose! and encourages the aversion response of pulling back and 'topping' the ball.
